Leon Strouss

National Committee:
Individual Member

Leon Strous, Dutch ceramist, living and working in Amsterdam.
Can not remember himself differently from his childhood than he was busy drawing.
About 25 years ago, he became fascinated in ceramic sculptures.
He felt the urge to go to work in three dimensions.
He makes daily farts on little sticky notes from own observation or appropriate
newspaper photos, humorous snapshots and fantasies: the man on the street and
his facial expressions, shapes, absurdities and attitudes.
It is necessary that a certain joke value is present and there is movement visible
in the form.
Leon prefers working with fine clay, so as detailed as possible to be able to
work out the shapes.
His sculptures have, as it were individuals themselves with an appearance
and emotion, balancing on the area between reality and abstraction with humor.
When the possibility of a private studio arose, his concentration on ceramics
was only bigger and more intense.

In 2012 he competed for the Netherlands in an international workshop organized
by the World Art Games to Vukovar in Croatia. In 2015 winner of the gold medal
for ceramics at the WAG, Bratislava, Slovakia.
In 2018 participated International Art Camp Cucuteni in Moldova.
